Industrial real estate activity takes off in Kansas City

The Journal of Commerce (JOC), a publication covering trade and container shipping news, covered lease commencement for three new tenants at the CenterPoint Intermodal Center in Kansas City.
Mark Szakonyi, Associate Managing Editor, writes that:
UFP Harrisonville, a wood products manufacturer, and Really Good Stuff, a teaching supplies distributors, this week made public their plans to set up shop within a 300,000- square-foot facility at the 1,340-acre complex. They will share the space with the U.S. Department of Agriculture, which announced its plans to move into CenterPoint-KCS Intermodal Center in September. And, in the fall, Neovia, a third-party logistics provider in Wal-Mart, said it would operate a 66,000-square-foot facility at the development, which includes a Kansas City Southern Railway intermodal terminal.
The USDA Animal and Plant Health Inspection Service (APHIS) will occupy 104,500 SF of the speculative, Class-A specialized facility, neighboring Really Good Stuff, Inc. and UFP Harrisonville, LLC in 65,500 SF.
Activity at the CenterPoint Intermodal Center Kansas City is indicative of growing demand for Kansas City industrial real estate, says the JOC. In part, that’s because shippers based in Kansas City can reach 85 percent of the U.S. population within two days via interstates 35, 70, 29 and 49 and can access five Class I railroads to take advantage of intermodal shipments.
