OAK BROOK, IL – CenterPoint Properties is pleased to announce the groundbreaking of 1,114,575 SF of new development at CenterPoint Intermodal Center (CIC)-Joliet, Illinois. The build-to-suit, cross-loaded distribution facility for Saddle Creek Logistics Services will be situated on approximately 60 acres, with ample space for car and trailer parking. Jack Cozzie of Newmark Grubb Knight Frank and Ladson Montgomery of Newmark Grubb Phoenix Realty Group represented Saddle Creek in the transaction, while Dan Leahy and Adam Roth of NAI Hiffman represented CenterPoint. CenterPoint hosted a ceremony to kick off development on July 22, which included Saddle Creek executive leadership, employees, local and regional political figures, customers and community members
Saddle Creek’s new property is located less than two miles from the entrance to Union Pacific’s Joliet Intermodal Terminal and adjacent to the interstate highway, which will enhance supply chain connectivity for Saddle Creek’s distribution needs. The Class A, state-of-the-art building will include 32’ clear height, 132 dock doors (expandable), 4 drive-in doors, 373 car parking stalls (expandable), 328 trailer stalls, and 14,108 SF worth of office space. Saddle Creek Logistics Services, which currently leases a 590,000 SF facility from CenterPoint at CIC-Elwood, joins several household names at its new space at CIC-Joliet.
“We’re ecstatic that Saddle Creek has chosen to grow with CenterPoint and has confidence in our ability to execute this build-to-suit facility,” said chief development officer of CenterPoint, Michael Murphy. “We value Saddle Creek’s trust in our team to deliver a high-quality facility that meets their specific design requirements, in addition to enhancing their supply chain efficiency and improving services to their local and regional client networks.”
“Our new property at CIC-Joliet will prove to be the ideal location for our regional and even multi-state distribution needs, as it’s located adjacent to the I-55/I-80 interchange, and anchored by the BNSF Logistics Park Chicago and Union Pacific Joliet Intermodal Terminal,” remarked Doug Blatchford of Saddle Creek Logistics Services. “We’re grateful that CenterPoint has flawlessly accommodated our growth and we’re looking forward to our next steps.”
CenterPoint Properties has added nearly 200 construction jobs to the local economy in the midst of this project. CenterPoint and Saddle Creek estimate that 200 permanent employees will be necessary to fill roles in manufacturing and assembly, as well as warehouse labor, at the completion of build.
“For more than 40 years, Saddle Creek Logistics Services has been a family-owned company that has provided outstanding service for manufacturers, distributors, retailers and online merchants. Currently, Saddle Creek Logistics employs more than 2,500 experienced associates and has over 16 million square feet of warehouse space in 41 strategic locations worldwide,” said State Representative Larry Walsh Jr. “I wish to offer my full support to Saddle Creek Logistics and look forward to their company continuing to grow and prosper here in Joliet.”
