The nation’s largest food bank will use the 124,000 SF facility, at 8530 Market Street, to receive shipments from the Texas Department of Emergency Management (TDEM) as part of its COVID-19 relief efforts.
The Houston Food Bank has seen the demand for food assistance skyrocket since the beginning of the COVID-19 pandemic. The charity distributed nearly 23 million pounds of food in the month of April, doubling its regular distribution.
“Our longstanding relationship with the Houston Food Bank is part of our mission to continually support the local community, and we’re proud to be able to help in their time of need,” said Danielle Radtke, Senior Vice President, Asset Management of CenterPoint.
The site’s prime East Loop location near the I-610 and I-10 interchange as well as its 34 exterior docks, one drive-in door and 21’ clear-height make it perfectly suited to meet the growing demands of the Houston Food Bank during this critical time.

“In Houston Food Bank’s 18-county service area, 1.1 million people were considered food insecure before the pandemic, and now research shows that number is expected to be closer to 2.75 million,” says Brian Greene, president/CEO of Houston Food Bank. “The Houston Food Bank has ramped up its distribution to respond to the growing needs. We are adjusting daily to meet the needs of the community while adapting our logistics and operations to help people in the safest and most effective way possible, and adding this warehouse space is crucial to ensure things continue to run smoothly.”
This is the second time in recent years that CenterPoint has partnered with the Houston Food Bank at a time of crisis. In the aftermath of Hurricane Harvey in 2017, the Houston Food Bank expanded its operations to CenterPoint’s 137,000 SF site at 8786 Wallisville Road to meet the tremendous demand from area families.

The Houston Food Bank’s mission is to provide food for better lives.
